Teaching Values
As the mom of three kids, I know all too well where the emphasis is put on as far as our kids are concerned...especially when they are not at home. SO much emphasis is placed on who is the fastest, who is the smartest, who is the tallest...and dare I say...who is the cutest. Making a commitment to teaching our children the importance of values will help them grow into amazing bigger people!
Ideas on how to help teach values:

Candle of Honor -- This is a simple, yet very powerful way to show your kids/other family members how important it is to demonstrate family values. When someone in your family goes out of their way to be honest, loving, tolerant, generous, etc., at the beginning of dinner, light a candle and acknowledge who the candle is being lit in honor of and why. The candle will stay lit all through dinner and your child will feel so proud and will most definitely want to work hard to get the candle lit again! (Once Upon a Family has a Candle of Honor, but a simple white candle would work or you and your child can even decorate your own candle of honor)

Lessons for Little Ones -- Lessons for Little Ones are individual lessons to help us teach our young ones the importance of specific values. Each lesson focuses on a particular value and also includes tradition ideas which tie into that particular time of year. (these are monthly lessons) Each lesson has a fun activity to reinforce the value of the month, along with a recipe and a place to keep a special photo of your child working on his/her lesson with you! If you'd like more information, please go to my Lessons for Little Ones page or contact me at familyconnections@pacbell.net

Keys of Happiness -- Happiness comes from living a life based on strong values. Our collection of antiqued keys will help you teach your children and grandchildren the importance of living by their values. When your child or grandchild demonstrates an act of honesty, courage, etc., honor them at a family dinner by presenting them with the Key pertaining to that value.
